Attingal: In the new traffic arrangement in Attingal, Palace road plays an important role. It is the only way through which the vehicles from East Nalumukku (near KSRTC bus stand) can reach Kacheri Nada. But the road is in no good shape to withstand the heavy traffic that include super fast buses and container lorries, not to mention the omni-present tippers and JCBs. Rather surprisingly it was Janathadal of all political parties who demanded yesterday the urgent renovation of Palace road. They demanded the evacuation of encroachers from Palace road too to increase its breadth.
The road got its name because it leads to the palace of erstwhile Attingal queen, a subordinate of Travancore dynasty. The palace is in Kollampuzha and it was converted into an auditorium. But the road, despite its royal name, never was in good shape in recent times. But now the traffic in Attingal became so congested, Palace road became the saving grace of the authorities as a road that can take some traffic off the National Highway. Let us hope that the new arrangement will bring a positive facelift to Palace road so that the actual road also will look royal like its name.
