Further changes in traffic reforms in Attingal

Attingal: In a saga that continues like a mega serial, traffic arrangements in Attingal have been modified after a review meeting yesterday in Attingal Guesthouse, Valiyakunnu. After the meeting, Attingal MLA Anathalavattom Anandan said that changes were made in the traffic arrangement following protests from people against the previous arrangement. Under the new arrangement, the one-way system in the National Highway from Kacherinada to East Nalumukku has been removed. Now light vehicles (two-wheelers, three-wheelers and cars) can enter the National Highway from both Kacherinada and East Nalumukku. But for heavy vehicles National Highway is still one-way. That is, heavy vehicles going to the direction of Thiruvananthapuram can go through the highway, but heavy vehicles coming from the direction of Thiruvananthapuram should take Palace Road from East Nalumukku and reach Kacherinada via Veeralam. The traffic restriction in the market road also has been removed. In the previous arrangement, right turn was not allowed for vehicles entering National Highway from Market Road (but in practice, nobody seemed to have obeyed the previous traffic restrictions in market road anyway). Now vehicles coming from Market Road to the highway can turn both left and right. Also Veeralam-Girls High School road, which was made one-way in the previous arrangement, has also been made two-way. Another aspect in the new arrangement concerns parking of vehicles. From private bus stand to East Nalumukku no parking is allowed, both in the National Highway and in Palace Road.

The MLA and the Municipal Chairman C.J. Rajesh Kumar also made the usual promises regarding traffic signals, four-lane road and the proposed by-pass road. That, everybody knows, will take many more years to happen, if ever. But the new traffic arrangement is in force right from today.

Nice to hear that the one way system is removed for light vehicles; but still it is applicable for heavy vehicles.

And the fact is that all the accidents in attingal is caused by the heavy vehicles.

Reason for accident: people(from different places) not aware of this one way system crosses the road looking at opposite side.

heavy vehicles overtake others very fastly with out the fear vehicles coming from other side thus hitting poor pedesters.

Soln: there should be a breaker system separating the roads if one way system is to be followed
