Attingal: The much awaited giga show turned out to be a damp squib. The event, jointly organized by Swayamvara Textiles and Attingal Municipality, was held yesterday at Mamam ground. A large crowd gathered on the ground to see Mammootty, who was the prime attraction of the show. Mammootty reached the place about ten minutes after the show commenced. As soon as Mammootty reached the place (in a Mercedes Benz), the crowd cheered and the clouds in the sky too gathered as if to watch the film star. Mammootty started waving to the rapturous crowd and began his walk towards the stage. But clouds could not hold together any longer and broke into a thunderous rain. In fact rain beat Mammootty to the stage. Mammootty retreated in a flash and the angry rain became more vigorous. The rain, surprisingly, confined itself to Mamam, as there was no rain in the nearby Attingal town. Soon some anti-social elements in the crowd took over. They began to pelt stones to the stage and started breaking chairs. The organizers vanished quickly, so did the crowd after sometime. When everyone left, Mamam ground resembled a deserted battleground. Smashed LCDs and broken chairs were found scattered all over the place. The giga show, the first of its kind in Kerala according to the organizers, became a laughing stock for the public in the town and a total embarrassment for its organizers.
