A Test for Preparing Textbooks

A unique sort of exam, surely the first of its kind in the districts of Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam districts, was held in Attingal on Saturday (August 8, 1008). After the recent controversy and all sorts of agitation over the social studies text book for the seventh standard in Kerala that even led to the death of a school headmaster, the government and the SCERT decided to conduct an entrance education for those who aspire to be included in the panel of writers for preparing text books. Earlier it had been done through nomination and requests. Applications were invited from interested people, especially from retired teachers and subject experts. More than 200 people applied. Hall tickets were sent to them. But only 177 of them turned up for the test. The test was conducted at DIET, Attingal (formerly known as BTS).
