Sabitha, a native of Vanchiyoor, near Attingal, was found dead in a canal at a vacant place near Chavarcode about two months earlier. She was married to a person in Chavarcode and was studying/working in computer institutes in Attingal and Navaikulam. She was murdered on her way to the computer institutes.
One gets the sneaking feeling that the case investigation of the murder is going in the way of that of the notorious Abhaya case. Here also police officials say that she was indeed murdered and there were some clear cut suspects. But there is no sufficient proof against the suspects. In fact, Kallambalam CI Sulfikar wants a narco-analysis of the suspects.
The police dog, which often provides crucial hints about the suspects, ran towards Sabitha’s house from the spot and then towards a neighbor’s house. The police took the neighbor into custody for questioning him. They found some wound marks on his hand. It was appeared to have caused by Pineapple leaves. The canal in which Sabitha’s dead body was found is bordered by a thick row of pineapple plants. It was learnt from police sources that the man agreed that he had tried to take the dead body from the canal. But he had said that he was acting on instructions received in his mobile phone. The police also took another person into custody. But the second person’s version contradicted with the first person’s. Later, both the suspects were released. According to police sources, both these men have consistently contradicted. The investigation has reached a dead end.
Meanwhile, some of the locals have formed an action plan and held some demonstrations. They also demanded a better probe by a superior agency. But from the initial signs, there is an unmistakable similarity for the development of this murder case with that of Abhaya case.
