Curtains Raised for Attingal Festival

Attingal film festival started yesterday (February 1) at Ganga Theatre. Soorya Krishanmoorthy, Adv. A. Sampath MP, and Anathalavattom Anandan all graced the elegant inaugural function at Ganga theatre. The only thing missing was the presence of a notable film personality.

Almost all speakers stressed that this is not just a festival of films. They said from next year onwards this is going to be festival of various forms of arts and culture.

After the inauguration ceremony, Vilapangalkappuram, directed by TV Chandran, was screened. The film deals with the story of Sahira (played by Priyanka) who had a near escape from the Gujarat riots.

The second film of the day was Subramaniapuram, a Tamil film directed by Sasikumar. The film portrays the life of some reckless youths in Subramaniapuram, a typical Tamil village near Madurai, in the eighties. It has all the right commercial mix: humor, good music, love story, and revenge. No wonder it was better received than the Malayalam art house movie before it.

The last film of the day was Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, the well-known film directed by Jabbar Patel in which Mammooty plays the lead role. It is a well-researched and well-shot biopic.
