Election Update: LDF Leads in Attingal Municipality, Tight Race in Varkala

Results of first fifteen wards of Attingal municipality have been known. LDF has won eleven of them, while UDF has won four seats. All the LDF bigwigs including Adv. S. Kumari and S. Pradeep, have won in handsome margins. S. Pradeep has a majority of 199 votes and Adv. S. Kumari has a whopping majority of 264 votes. Adv. S. Kumari is tipped to become the chairperson of Attingal municipality.

A much tighter contest is going on in Varkala municipality, where LDF has won six out of the first twelve seats announced. UDF have won four seats (including a Kerala Congress (M) candidate in Janatha Mukku) and independent candidates have won in two seats.

The initial trends in Attingal defy the state-wise trend against LDF and vindicate the bullish confidence expressed by the local LDF leaders, who had predicted about 21 seats for LDF out of the total 31 seats in the municipality.

Of the first ten wards, the two seats that went to UDF are the first ward and the eighth ward, that is, Kochuvila ward, where ALUMOOTTIL NAJEENA of Muslim League has been elected, and Avanavanchery where Shri. K.KRISHNAMOORTHI of Indian National Congress has been elected. The remaining eight seats have gone to LDF.
