LDF Still on Top in Attingal, but UDF Closing in

One thing became crystal clear after the counting of local body elections in Attingal, and  Chirayinkeezhu taluk in general. This is no longer a red bastion. True, LDF retained Attingal municipality and most of the other neighboring panchayathsin the taluk. But the margin of majority is much less than many of the local leaders anticipated.

UDF won only five panchayaths - Madavoor, Pallickal, Elakaman, Pulimath and Chemmaruthi - and Varkala municipality. There is no clear-cut winner in some of the panchayaths, namely, Manambur, Anchuthengu, and Kadakkavoor. LDF has simple majority in all the other panchayaths in the taluk. The following is the list of seats won by each front in panchayaths near Attingal.

There will be competition among LDF leaders to contest in Attingal, where LDF still enjoys reasonably good popularity. UDF leaders will feel that they can easily win Varkala constituency in the next assembly polls. That is, if nothing politically dramatic will happen till then.
