LDF comfortably retained Chirayinkeezhu Panchayath. The left front won 13 out of the total 19 wards. But the counting was not without any tension and excitement. When the counting of regular votes in Sarkara ward was over, both candidates, Mr. Sasikumar of CPI(M) and Mr. Suresh Kumar of INC ended with 246 votes. Then the postal votes were counted, in which Suresh Kumar got what he wanted - a majority of one vote. Counting of Aryanthuruthi too was similarly exciting, where Reeja of CPI(M) edged past Hildamma of INC by one vote in regular counting. In some of the wards, the number of invalid votes was more than the majority.
Local CPI(M) leaders are happy with the performance of the party, as it won most of the seats in comprehensive margins. MR. R. Subash, who won from Kadakam ward, is the clear favorite to become the next panchayath president in Chirayinkeezh.
