Government High School, Avanavanchery, has received special jury award in the Harithavidyalayam television show, which is a social development reality show aired in Doordarshan Thiruvananthapuram channel on 8.30 p on all week days.

A jury comprising eminent personalities like MT Vasudevan Nair, RVG Menon, Akbar Kakkattil, and K. Rekha chose the winners. The school will get a cash prize Rs. 2 lakhs and a citation for their achievement.
The top honor of the show, carrying a cash prize of Rs. 15 lakhs, went to Koottakkani Government UP School in Kasaragod district. Kottakkal Government Raja's High School in Malappuram district bagged the second spot. The third prize was shared between the Cotton Hill Girls' HSS, Thiruvananthapuram and the SB Higher Secondary School. Avanavanchery school’s episode in the show was remarkable with the lively participation of the girl students, while the boy students appeared rather subdued. One of the judges even jokingly commented that the school would require a kind of ‘man empowerment’ scheme.
