Attingal ‘Cool’ ahead of Election Results

The rest of the local politicians in the state might be biting their nails and fighting nervousness. But not the leaders of Attingal. The result of the two constituencies near Attingal has been ‘unofficially’ announced by the local leaders here. Both seats go to LDF. Even Congress leaders agree that B. Sathyan of CPI(M) would win hands down from Attingal, while V. Sasi of CPI(M) would not have any problems from Chiryainkeezhu. The only question remains is that of majority.
We know what was in their minds: Voters at an election booth near Attingal on polling day

Things are slightly different in two neighboring constituencies, Vamanapuram and Varkala, though. In the early days of campaigning, it was supposed to be a walk in the park for two familiar faces in the region: Koliyakkode Krishnan Nair in of CPI(M)Vamanapuram and Varkala Kahar of Congress (I) in Varkala. But their opposition candidates seem to have campaigned well enough to dispel any chances of easy victories.

C. Mohanachandran of Congress (I), who is actually a regular loser in elections at various levels in these parts, has put up a decent fight in Vamanapuram. The demarcation of the constituency too is supposed to help him. But still the veteran comrade, Koliyakkode Krishnan Nair, is expected to emerge victorious.

It would have been a virtual cake walk for Kahar in Varkala had it not been for the demarcation of Varkala assembly constituency. Many parts of the previous Kilimanoor constituency, a strong fort of the left, have gone to Varkala after demarcation. Then there was the lively campaigning of A. Rahim of CPI(M) and his SFI mates. But Kahar knows the electoral box office equations pretty well like a computer geek knows Facebook applications. He has studiously attended almost all the funerals and marriages in the region and managed to take credit for whatever little development works happened in and around Varkala. All that is expected to take him through.
