Central Aid for Attingal

Attingal: The central government has allowed 4.63 crores for Attingal municipality for a slum renovation project under Jawaharlal urban renewal mission plan. The municipality had submitted a vision document of the project drafted by the Chief Town Planner to the central government. The government approved the project and sanctioned the fund. The municipality has already received Rs. 3.6 crores as the first installment. In this, Rs. 1.57 crores is allocated for slum renovation. Eight colonies are earmarked for implementing the project in the firs stage. Two more colonies will be renovated in the second stage. The remaining portion of the fund is for making the town clean and green: that means making facilities for processing solid waste, building a new slaughter house, and creating a tourism friendly environment in the town.

Residents of the colonies will get financial aid for building concrete houses. Each resident of the non-reservation category has to contribute Rs. 9600/- to avail the fund, while a resident belonging to backward community has to contribute Rs. 8000/-. Rs. 80000/- will be given for building a new house and Rs. 25000/- will be given for renovating an existing house. Apart from this, the fund will be utilized for basic facilities like building roads and providing electricity connection and water supply.
