Harthal near complete in Attingal

Attingal: The BJP-sponsored harthal, for protesting against the inauguration of a Railway zone in Salem, was near complete here. Shops remained closed. Only medical shops were open. Only two-wheelers and occasional four-wheelers, largely displaying stickers written “wedding” or “death”, were seen on the roads. KSRTC officials decided not to run the buses, after a warning from local BJP leaders. Rough-looking BJP workers were seen prowling the almost empty streets to make sure that all the shops are closed. Some government-run establishments like KSFE and some banks were open in the morning. But BJP workers soon reached the spots and enforced a quick shut down. One thing became clear though: people enjoy harthals; whether it is Keralapiravi or independence day, or by BJP or by PDP, harthal is always welcome.
