Ramzan, A Drama Festival, and KSFE Evening Branch Inauguration in Attingal

The town witnessed a flurry of activities during the first week of October. First it was Ramzan. Muslims celebrated the festival with religious discipline, with many people observing the customary fasting (noyambu) on most of the days in September. Non-Muslims too celebrated the occasion with all the non-vegetarian zest.

The G. Sanakara Pillai Memorial drama festival held in the open ground opposite private bus stand in Attingal has come to a close on October 5. The festival was exceptionally well conducted. Each day before the start of the drama, famous drama professionals and personalities had made speeches about the state of Malayalam professional drama today. Some took the audiences through a memory tour of their golden days. Also each day, members of audience had been given an opportunity to talk about the previous day’s drama. But a majority of people chose to not express their views in public. But many people expressed dissatisfaction over the quality of the dramas in private. But in all, the event should be considered as a big success.

An evening branch of Kerala State Financial Enterprises (KSFE) was inaugurated in Attingal yesterday. Water Resources Minister of Kerala, Mr. N.K. Premachandran inaugurated the branch. The Finance Minister Dr. T.M. Thomas Isaac presided over the function. Both ministers utilized the opportunity to stress the importance of public sector financial institutions in the present global scenario, where international banks have been busting like the business of local money lenders. In fact, the Finance Minister, who is a well-known economics expert, compared the likes of AIG and Merry Lynch to Sabari Nath, the person who swindled millions of rupees through his notorious firm Total 4 U. Not a bad comparison, one must acknowledge. By the way, the branch is situated in Krishna Tower, a building adjacent to the private bus stand. The branch functions from 1 pm to 7 pm.
