A Romantic Tragedy of A Different Kind

Why should you bother if the girl next door is in love with somebody else? That was what Sujith (aged 19; son of Mr. Manoharan Pillai, Aalin Poika Veedu, Veyiloor, near Attingal) thought when he heard that a girl in his neighborhood had eloped with somebody. The girl happened to be a relative of a CPM strong man in Kallambalam. Strangely, for reasons known only to them, the police arrested Sujith and conducted a typical local police “interrogation”. In other words, he was beaten to pulp. But he could not provide any tips about the missing girl. According to the police, the crime Sujith committed was bringing a mobile phone SIM card to the girl. Sujith agrees that he indeed bought a SIM card for the girl and gave it to her – but only on the request of the girl and after receiving money. Not satisfied with his version, the police officials in Kallambalam Police Station continued the torture.

Fortunately for Sujith, the girl was arrested the next day along with her actual lover – who is said to be one Riyas from Madavoor – from Nenmara, Palakkad. But by the time, Sujith’s condition had become really worse. Later, he was hospitalized. He has not yet recovered from the physical and mental pain.

Contrast this with another case in the same police station circle, which was reported in this blog a few months back. A young, married woman, Sabitha, was found dead in a canal. The police dog, one of the few uncorrupt officials in our police squad, ran towards one of the neighboring houses from the spot. The man on that house agreed that he had tried to remove the body from the canal. He says somebody called him on the mobile phone and instructed him to remove the body from there. But suddenly the police seem to have lost interest in the investigation. Many people believe that the actual culprits are influential people and some of them have absconded.

I refrain from commenting on the issue, other than reminding the readers once again that both the cases happened within the jurisdiction of Kallambalam Police Station.
