Processions, Roadblocks and an Art Festival

Attingal: Yesterday was marked by two processions, causing roadblocks, which in turn created a long queue of impatient vehicles. In the morning, around 9.30, a colorful procession of school children, displaying various fancy dresses accompanied a musical band, was seen going from CSI School to DIET. It was to mark the inauguration of sub-district school festival, which is being held in DIET. Anathalavattom Anandan MLA inaugurated the festival. Municipal Chairman Adv. C.J. Rajesh Kumar presided over the function.

In the evening, around 6.30, a march carried out by a handful of angry demonstrators belonging to NDF, a hard-core Muslim organization, virtually brought the traffic to a standstill in the National Highway. They were shouting battle-cry slogans with great enthusiasm. The march was conducted in protest against atrocities by RSS, a hard-core Hindu organization. But a packed police force accompanied the procession, preventing any damages – both by and to the protestors.
